SW Wadhington Holistic Health Who are we?

SW Washington Holistic Health is co-founded and owned by Terri Nosack, RN and Debbie Nesbitt, RN. Nosack & Nesbitt are seasoned, cutting-edge Registered Nurses with over 50 years combined experience working in traditional & complementary healthcare settings. Both are graduates of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) endorsed Holistic Nursing and Holistic Stress Management Instructor Programs.

What is Holistic Nursing?

The American Nurses Association (ANA) officially endorsed Holistic Nursing as a specialty practice in December 2006. ANA’s landmark endorsement of Holistic Nursing has served as a major catalyst to promote the advancement of Holistic Health education and integrative healthcare in the United States.

Holistic Nursing embraces all facets of nursing. Its goal is the enhancement of healing and support of the whole person from birth to death. Holistic Nursing recognizes that there are two views regarding holism: that holism involves identifying the interrelationships of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual dimensions of the person, recognizing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; and that holism involves understanding the individual as a unitary whole in mutual process with the environment. Holistic Nursing responds to both views, believing that the goals of nursing can be achieved within either framework.

What is Holistic Stress Management?

Holistic Stress Management is simply a way to manage stress more effectively. It encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic aspect of the self. SWWHH provides interactive workshops covering theory, experiential exercises and take-home tools to support Holistic Health and Wellbeing. Holistic Stress Management goals include: moving from a motivation of fear to a motivation of love/compassion; uniting the mind, body, spirit and emotions to return to ‘homeostasis;’ uniting the powers of the conscious and unconscious minds; living in the present moment versus the past (i.e., guilt) or future (i.e., anxiety); and keeping the ego and soul in balance.

What does SWWHH have to offer?

SW Washington Holistic Health provides Holistic Health Education, Holistic Stress Management, experiential workshops & retreats, and Integrative Health Consulting. Our holistic practice is founded upon the American Holistic Nurses Association vision, mission, philosophy, intentions and core values.

SW Washington Holistic Health has a passion to facilitate awareness, educate, and share the benefits of Holistic Health and Integrative Healthcare with our healthcare community, clients and their families, nursing and medical schools, and the community-at-large.

Nosack and Nesbitt host AHNA Washington State Network events, and recruit national speakers, authors & presenters to the Portland/Vancouver area to inspire the healthcare community and community-at-large regarding the healing power of self-care, empowerment, Holistic Stress Management, and spirituality.

A special interest of SWWHH is to bring about community, fiscal and legislative awareness regarding the humanity, wisdom and economics that support an integrative healthcare approach for the management of palliative, hospice and senior healthcare.

What is Holistic Nursing?

Holistic nursing embraces all nursing which has as its goal the enhancement of healing the whole person from birth to death.

The holistic nurse is an instrument of healing and a facilitator in the healing process. Holistic nurses honor the individual's subjective experience about health, health beliefs, and values. To become therapeutic partners with individuals, families, and communities, holistic nursing practice draws on nursing knowledge, theories, research, expertise, intuition, and creativity. Holistic nursing practice encourages peer review of professional practice in various clinical settings and integrates knowledge of current professional standards, laws, and regulations governing nursing practice.

Practicing holistic nursing requires nurses to integrate self-care, self-responsibility, spirituality, and reflection in their lives. This may lead the nurse to greater awareness of the interconnectedness with self, others, nature, and God/Life-Force/Absolute/Transcendent. This awareness may further enhance the nurses' understanding of all individuals and their relationships to the human and global community, and permits nurses to use this awareness to facilitate the healing process.

The American Holistic Nurses Association embraces nursing as a lifestyle and a profession and provides a means to create bonds within the nursing community. Because true healing comes from within, the AHNA recognizes that nurses must first heal themselves before they can facilitate the healing of others. There are many roads to healing, and individuals must seek their own paths. The AHNA serves as a bridge between the traditional medical paradigm and universal complementary and alternative healing practices.

AHNA supports the concepts of holism: a state of harmony among body, mind, emotions and spirit within an ever-changing environment.
